FAQ
Common questions about working with Round 3 Films. If you can't find what you're looking for, get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
Working With Us
How do we get started?
Just get in touch. We'll have an initial conversation to understand your project, goals, and audience. From there we'll put together a proposal with a creative approach, timeline, and quote. No obligation, no formalities — just a chat about your story.
Do we need a brief or script before reaching out?
Not at all. Some clients come to us with a detailed brief, others come with just an idea. We're happy to work with either. Our creative development process is designed to take your objectives and shape them into a compelling narrative.
What's the typical timeline for a project?
It depends on the scope. A straightforward corporate video or short documentary typically takes 4–8 weeks from briefing to delivery. Larger projects — multi-episode series, feature documentaries, or complex brand campaigns — can take 3–6 months. We always establish clear timelines upfront.
Do you work with agencies or only direct clients?
Both. We work directly with brands, organisations, and individuals, and we also partner with agencies and marketing teams who need a production partner. We're flexible and can adapt to however you prefer to work.
Can you work within our brand guidelines?
Absolutely. We regularly produce content within strict brand frameworks — specific colour palettes, fonts, tone of voice, and approval workflows. We'll review your guidelines during pre-production and make sure everything is on-brand.
Pricing & Budget
How much does video production cost?
Every project is different, so we quote based on scope rather than a fixed price list. As a rough guide: short-form content (social, cutdowns) typically starts from $5,000; corporate videos and brand films range from $8,000–$30,000; documentary series and larger productions from $20,000–$80,000+. We provide transparent, itemised quotes after understanding your project.
What's included in the quote?
Our quotes cover everything — creative development, pre-production planning, crew and equipment, filming, editing, colour grading, sound design, music licensing, motion graphics (if needed), and final delivery in all required formats. No hidden costs.
Can you work within a specific budget?
Yes. If you have a set budget, let us know upfront and we'll design a production approach that maximises value within it. We're experienced at scaling production to suit different budgets without compromising the quality of the storytelling.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, we typically require a 50% deposit before production begins, with the balance due on delivery. For larger projects we can arrange milestone-based payment schedules. We'll discuss payment terms during the proposal stage.
Production
Where are you based?
We're based in Collingwood, Melbourne. But we film anywhere — across Melbourne and regional Victoria, interstate, and internationally. Recent projects have taken us to Sierra Leone, the Maldives, and locations across Australia from Jervis Bay to Western Australia.
What equipment do you use?
We shoot on professional cinema cameras (primarily Sony and Canon cinema line), with professional audio equipment, lighting, and grip as needed. We choose equipment based on the project — sometimes that means a full cinema setup, other times a lightweight documentary rig. The story dictates the gear, not the other way around.
How many revision rounds do we get?
Our standard process includes two rounds of revisions on the edit. Most projects are finalised within that. If a project requires additional rounds due to changing requirements, we'll discuss that openly. We want you to be happy with the result.
Can you produce multiple videos from one shoot?
Definitely — and we recommend it. We regularly plan shoots to capture content for hero films, social cutdowns, testimonials, behind-the-scenes, and photography stills all from the same production day. It's one of the most cost-effective ways to build a content library.
Do you handle music licensing?
Yes. We source and license music for every project, either from premium music libraries or through original composition. Music licensing costs are included in our quotes so there are no surprises.
Deliverables & Rights
What formats do you deliver in?
We deliver in whatever formats you need — high-resolution masters (ProRes/H.265), web-optimised MP4s, and platform-specific exports for social media (16:9, 9:16, 1:1). We also provide captioned versions for accessibility and silent autoplay.
Who owns the final video?
You do. Our standard agreement transfers all rights to the client upon final payment. You're free to use the content however you wish — online, broadcast, events, internal use, or paid advertising.
Can we get the raw footage?
Raw footage can be provided by arrangement. We'll discuss this during the proposal stage if it's something you need. There may be an additional cost for organising and delivering raw files.
Do you handle distribution or just production?
Our core service is production, but we're happy to advise on distribution strategy — platform optimisation, best practices for social media, film festival submissions, and paid media considerations. For documentary projects, we can also manage festival submission strategies.
Documentary Specific
How do you approach filming with vulnerable subjects?
With great care. We prioritise informed consent, trust-building, and dignity in every interaction. We spend time building genuine relationships before filming, ensure subjects understand how their story will be used, and give them agency in how they're portrayed. Our documentary work with communities experiencing homelessness, poverty, and other challenges has been recognised for its ethical approach.
Can you film internationally?
Yes. We've produced documentary content in Sierra Leone, the Maldives, across regional Australia, and more. We handle logistics, permits, and local crew coordination for international shoots. We travel light and adapt to challenging conditions.
Do you submit to film festivals?
We can. Our documentary work has screened at festivals including Toronto Web Fest, New Zealand Web Fest, Gold Coast Film Festival, Copenhagen Web Fest, Seoul Web Fest, Rio Web Fest, Melbourne Web Fest, St Kilda Film Festival, and the Berlin Music Video Awards. We can develop a festival strategy and manage submissions for your project.
